Drug Aware Margaret River Pro

World Surf League Championship Tour Event
Margaret River, Western Australia
29 March - 9 April 2017

Surfline forecast medium size surf from later Friday through Sunday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 April, 2017 - The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro will be called OFF again today due to poor wind conditions on offer.

"We are seeing really clean, contestable three-to-five foot conditions out there," said WSL Deputy Commissioner Renato Hickel. "But, we know the wind is just around the corner and going to blow onshore quite hard, so we are calling the event off for today. We are going to reassess tomorrow. We have a big chance to run the women's event tomorrow, and if not then, on Saturday. There is still a massive swell for Sunday, so we are most likely going to do the men's Quarterfinals then and finish the event."

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:45 a.m. local time to reassess the conditions and make the next call.

The field of elite surfers has been narrowed down to the men's Quarterfinalists and women's Semifinalists. When competition gets back underway, the event will see an exciting finals day in Margaret River at the second stop of the WSL Championship Tour.

Reigning WSL Champion Tyler Wright (AUS) will take on Sage Erickson (USA) for the opportunity to defend her event title in the opening Semifinal matchup.

Six-time WSL Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) will be up against 2017 World Title contender Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) in the second Semifinal heat, when competition resumes.

Surfline, official forecast for the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, are calling for:

Confidence continues to increase that the best surf in the remaining waiting period will occur over the weekend, likely on Sunday.  We’ll see medium size surf from later Friday through Sunday, although local wind looks most favorable on Sunday at this point.
