Bali grom latest addition to growing Rip Curl Indonesia team
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 March, 2017 - Each year the Industry aspect of Indonesian surfing edges closer to taking its place alongside countries like Brazil, Australia and the U.S.A. One sure sign of this trend is Rip Curl's signing of up-and-coming groms who hope to join The Tour one day.
Their latest addition is 15-year-old goofyfoot Taina Izquierdo who started surfing at the age of 8 at Padang Padang Beach in Bali, when her dad took her out on his longboard.
“I stood up on my first wave and just fell in love with the feeling, that adrenaline and rush you get when the waves are big," said Izquierdo.
According to Rip Curl a year later she joined her first competition, where her dad would push her on small waves, and that’s where it all truly began, “I fell in love with competitive surfing and knew that I wanted to be a Pro surfer”
“I want to be the Become the first Indonesian girl to be on tour and become world champion,” she adds.
This year Taina will be competing in her first QS competition next month in Indonesia, Sumatra.
