Caparica Primavera Surf Fest to Host QS, Longboard and Junior Divisions

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 February, 2017 - The third edition of the Caparica Primavera Surf Fest has taken a hugh leap forward in 2017 and will go from a Junior event, to a full Festival, hosting a men and women’s QS1,000 event, as well as a JQS and LQS event.

Up-and-coming Junior surfers from all-over Europe have been coming to Caparica for the past two years and launched their regional Junior Qualifying Series race in the quality surf of Praia do Paraiso. The successful two editions have paved the way for bigger and better events in 2017.

This season, this Spring Surf festival in Portugal will host the all-exciting Qualifying Series QS1,000 men and women divisions as well as a longboarding event, bringing the very best surfers from the continent all in one place for a week-full of action and festivities.

Past winners of the Junior events, Miguel Blanco, Thomas Debierre and Teresa Bonvalot (back-to-back wins in 2015 and 2016) will have a chance to take it to the next level and possibly claim their inaugural QS victories in familiar territories.

“Caparica is a great location for a WSL surfing event,” Rob Gunning, WSL Europe tour manager stated. “The waves are consistent and we have room for multiple peaks for competition during the event waiting period. It is run over the Easter weekend which for WSL Europe marks the commencement of our season in mainland Europe. Caparica is easy for all European and International surfers to attend, making for a high number of athletes and another important WSL event in Portugal.”

“The CPSF has developed quickly with improvements each year and now on the third edition is becoming a WSL event with 6 categories,” Gunning continued. “The organisation is very professional and the support from the Almada city council is strong making for a bright future for the event to continue to grow over the coming seasons.”

Aside from the main World Surf League events, the Caparica Primavera Surf Fest will host musical acts under the iconic dome of the event’s site, action sports demos on a dedicated temporary skate park by the waterfront, and plenty of other fun activities for the thousands of visitors expected to flock to the site.
