G-day from the Gold Coast.
We’ve had a pretty interesting start to the year with some great waves in the first few days of the New Year plus nearly a week of swell later in the month thanks to Tropical Cyclone Victor and rounding the month out with some five straight days of crazy thunderstorms.
Cyclone Victor came nowhere near the Australian coast but tracked parallel from around Fiji all the way down to the North island of New Zealand The easterly swell it generated fired up all the Gold Coast point breaks with great waves at Burleigh and the Superbank. Summer holiday crowds were a big factor with Snapper through to Kirra having close to 600 people in the line up over one weekend.

At the moment the sand is lined up perfectly at all the points and there is more swell in the next forecast period. A lot of people consider we’re in for a good year of waves and if January is anything to go by then I’d have to agree.
