The new frontier in paddle-in surfing gets well-crafted edit from the Red Bull team
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 December, 2016 - Last week the big-wave surf world saw a new barrier broken, paddle in contest surfing at Nazaré. And now the crew at Red Bull have just wrapped up the highlights of this momentous occasion with a neat, little edit.
The contest was won by Australia's Jamie Mitchell who edged out locals Joao De Macedo and Antonio Silva in the final.
How surf-able are the waves at Nazaré in a "paddle-in" context. South Africa's Grant Twiggy Baker posted to Instagram his thoughts and uncertainties about the venue as a paddle-in spot at that size.
"Nazare as a wave is a phenom, as challenging and beautiful as any big wave I've surfed but do the dangers involved out way the rewards?" said Baker. "Those 20 minutes during each heat, on the back of a ski, holding on with all your strength while jumping 10ft foamies, were some of the most terrifying experiences of my life and something I can't see myself repeating."
According to Red Bull, for this edit Alex Laurel, "wanted to bring Nazaré to our eyes like we've never seen it before. So he teamed up with Timelapse-Media in the water, and Maquina Voadora-Producoes in the sky."
