Raised in Huntington Beach (and fluent in Japanese thanks to his parents) Kanoa has honed his competitive skills since a very young age. A competitive machine, he won nearly every major amateur title available to an American. His surfing is quick, polished and very advanced technically. He’s benefited from intense coaching since early on and has had the backing of Quiksilver throughout his venture from grommethood to adult surf star. He joined the WSL Championship Tour in 2016
