Favorable conditions forecasted for upcoming days

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 April, 2017 - The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach has been called OFF for the day due to lack of swell on offer. After an incredible finish to the Rip Curl Women’s Pro Bells Beach yesterday the men’s event will look to recommence tomorrow and Thursday for increased swell opportunities to close out the competition.

“We were anticipating a slight drop in swell today, but it has dropped off quite a bit here at Bells Beach,” said WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow. “There is a substantial increase in swell expected for tomorrow and then fading out on Thursday. Although the winds are not looking ideal tomorrow, they look more favorable Thursday. With our current forecast, we are aiming to have competition wrapped up by Thursday.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 6:45 a.m. local time to reassess the conditions and make the next call.

When competition gets back underway, non-elimination Round 4 will see the world’s best surfers compete to skip straight through to the Quarterfinals and avoid elimination Round 5.

Three-time WSL Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) will battle reigning WSL Champion John John Florence (HAW) and Sebastian Zietz (HAW) in Round 4 Heat 2.

Current World No. 2 Owen Wright (AUS) will match-up against 2016 Rookie of the Year Caio Ibelli (BRA) and 2017 CT Rookie Frederico Morais (PRT) in the opening heat of Round 4.

Brazilian charger Filipe Toledo (BRA) will need to get through his heat against 2015 WSL Champion Adriano de Souza (BRA) and 2017 CT Rookie Ezekiel Lau (HAW) in order to earn a spot in the Quarterfinals.

Wiggolly Dantas (BRA) has already surpassed his best result of the 2017 season, but will look to continue his run as he comes up against 2012 WSL Champion Joel Parkinson (AUS) and Jordy Smith (ZAF) in the final heat of Round 4.

Surfline, official forecast for the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, are calling for:

Smaller leftovers from the SW early Tuesday will give way to rebuilding and larger surf over the afternoon as new SW swell fills in.  Solid, new SW swell peaks on Wednesday, albeit with light to moderate onshore wind. Thursday will see a fading/dropping trend, although local wind looks more favorable than Wednesday with possible offshore flow in the morning. A small, new SW swell is lining up for Friday afternoon, with a better SW swell for Sunday.
