WSL Women's CT Event
Margaret River, Western Australia
8 - 19 April 2016

Some larger swell in the outlook with the extended forecast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 April, 2016 - The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro has been called OFF for the day due to high onshore winds and a decreasing swell. “It is not great out there this morning with the onshore wind,” said WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow.

“We have not had this onshore wind for a few days as we have been waking up and having beautiful West Australian offshore winds. They have been a little strong, but they have been great. So this morning with the onshore winds and the swell dropping off, we will be off for the day. We will be back tomorrow morning to reassess the conditions.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30 am to assess the conditions and make the next call. When competition resumes, we will see heated match-ups in Men’s Round 4 and the Women’s Quarterfinals.

Men’s Round 4 Heat 1 will witness the all-Australian match-up between CT heavyweights Matt Wilkinson (AUS), Joel Parkinson (AUS) and Julian Wilson (AUS). Wilkinson, current World No. 1, will battle Parkinson and Wilson to continue on for a third-straight event win.

Injury replacement Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA) will attempt to continue his streak of upsets when he faces goofy-footers Nat Young (USA) and Adrian Buchan (AUS) in Heat 2.

The Women’s Quarterfinals will see a rematch between Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), six-time WSL Champion, and Tyler Wright (AUS), current World No.2, Wright knocked out Gilmore on the Gold Coast, but the two will battle again for the opportunity to stay in contention for the event win when competition resumes.

Surfline, official forecaster for the World Surf League, is calling for: Fading but still medium sized SW/SSW swell for Tuesday offers up some chest to head high plus sets for the top breaks and then some new WSW/SW swell adds some size into Wednesday. Onshore flow for the W/NW facing breaks on Tuesday with lighter WNW tending W/SW winds for Wednesday. Some larger WSW/SW swell in the outlook with the extended forecast looking better each day.

The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro will be webcast LIVE on as well as the WSL app.

The event is also being carried by our LIVE broadcast partners Fox Sports Australia, CBS Sports in the United States, ESPN Brasil, Globosat, Edgesport, Sky NZ, Sport TV, Canal + Deportes, Channel Nine, MCS, Starhub, and Oceanic Time Warner Cable 250 & 1250 in Hawaii.
