Inconsistent 2 - 3 foot waves with strong onshore wind force Lay Day
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 October, 2016 - Competition has been called OFF for the day at the Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal with inconsistent two-to-three foot surf on offer at Supertubos.
"The onshore wind has got stronger and the waves are smaller so we're off for the day," Travis Logie, Deputy Commissioner said. "We'll be back tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. to have another look."
First to compete when competition resumes will be current No. 1 on the Jeep Leaderboard John John Florence (HAW) and wildcard Miguel Blanco (PRT) in the opening heat of Round 2. Gabriel Medina (BRA) and Ryan Callinan (AUS) match-up in Round 2 Heat 2.
Event organizers will reconvene at 8 a.m. (local time) tomorrow morning to assess conditions and make the next call.
Surfline, official forecast partner of the WSL, are calling for:
W swell offers fun surf for the middle and second half of the week with generally light winds and favorable conditions. Lingering swell mix is expected on Saturday morning before onshore winds increase. Bigger windswell/swell and onshore winds for Sundaywith the potential for winds to improve some early next week as the surf fades. At this point it looks like smaller surf for mid/late next week.
