Victorian round of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle heads to Phillip Island
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 December, 2017 - Phillip Island will this weekend be hosting the Victorian round of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle, to crown the top Boardriders club in the state and decide the team that will represent Victoria at the National Final in Newcastle.
The seventh event of the series will see some of the most powerful clubs in the state go head to head including reigning champions Torquay, Peninsula Surfriders, Phillip Island and 13th Beach.
“We are stoked to have the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle back in Victoria again this year” said Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson. “Club surfing is integral to the Australian Surfing Pathway and provides opportunities for juniors to learn skills off more experienced club members. I am looking forward to seeing which club takes this years title and represents the state in Newcastle.”
A call for the event will be made at 8:30am at Cape Woolamai for a potential 8:45am start.
The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will involve more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a National final in NSW in February 2017 for 24 clubs.This weekend’s event will see 13 of the best boardriders clubs in NSW battle it out for a spot in the national final set to run in Newcastle, NSW in February 2018.
The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events as well as the national final.
The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide. In the past four years, Surfing Australia has invested over $600,000 into Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs as part of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle series.
