Revolt Summer Surf Series Pier II Pier Pro Am

Luel Felipe and Brooke Young take men's and women's divisions

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 July, 2017 - Surfers from around the globe converged on Pacific Beach's PB Drive this weekend to compete in the 2017 Revolt Summer Surf Series Pier II Pier Pro Am presented by Hodads.

Surfers representing Peru, Guam, Japan, Venezuela & Brazil challenged some of the best from the West Coast. The 'Brazilian Storm' showed up in large numbers with Luel Felipe, Victor Bernardo & Gustavo Araujo taking home the lions share of cash, trophies & prizes. Bernardo jumped on a borrowed longboard & managed to pull off an unexpected win in the Men's Open LB division as well.

Surfing in fair conditions left behind from Tropical Storm Eugene, athletes saw waist & shoulder high sets push through the entire day. Semi finals saw a number of head high sets during high tide - later the waves cooperated even more so during the final heats of the day, with a number of memorable rides that had spectators off their beach towels & cheering on the beach.

Victor Bernardo & Luel Felipe of Brazil went head to head with Americans Jay Christensen & Matt King during the Men's Pro Am Final. Jay Christensen was impressive with local wave knowledge & selection, while Matt King's showing was solid - even though he was quite ill most of the day. But it was Luel Felipe that scored big on the best waves of the heat - boosting big aires & showing off his powerful cutback capabilities - taking first place with Christensen close behind in second, Bernardo third & Matt King placing fourth.

The Men's 18+ Open final was an international slug fest between Gustavo Arujo, Pedro Todaro & Maxsswell Ribiero of Brazil, Giancarlos Urcia of Peru, Jared Gogue of Guam & local Jay Christensen surfing for the U.S. - Maxsswell & Gustavo took home a close first & second respectively while Jay Christensen grabbed third followed by Gogue in fourth.

Women's divisions were lightly populated even to the point the Women's Pro Am division was scratched for the day leaving Kirra Silver & Metzly Olmos battling Brooke Young in the Women's Open.

Junior Men had exceptional performances by Stephen Muschett & Riley Morgan as well as Junior Boys Mick Davey & Alex Cockrell. Keep an eye on this bunch. Jr. Girls saw more signups and Jordan Alsted, Jenna Clark & Royce Epperson had some fun waves & lots of smiles - always a good time for the younger surfers

Grom boys & girls final heats included standout performances by Kai Andersen & Jordan Alsted. The Masters division saw a win by Liquid Foundation team manager, Charlie Rick & the Women's Longboard final had Pearl Moore & Alizee Hazan with a close, one-two placement.
