Neutrox Weekend QS1500

The Women’s QS1500 is scheduled to run from October 20 – 22 at Barra da Tijuca, Brazil

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 October, 2017 - The World Surf League announces the confirmation of the Women’s QS 1,500 Neutrox Weekend from October 20 – 22 at Barra da Tijuca. This is the first Women’s Qualifying Series event held in Rio de Janeiro since 2009. In addition to the QS competition, the event weekend will also host multiple Women’s Brazilian national categories including Pro Junior, Longboard and SUP contests.

The Neutrox Weekend is the 36th event on the WSL Qualifying Series calendar. Besides the 1,500 points on offer to the event winner, an additional 1,000 points will be appointed towards the WSL South America Regional rankings. Only the top six ranked surfers will be part of the 2018 World Surf League Championship Tour.

The contest site will provide a number of free activities to the public including yoga classes, slacklines, surf clinics with former four-time Brazilian national champion Andrea Lopes, skateboard demos, Crossfit classes as well as hair treatments provided by the Neutrox Activation Tent.

“Neutrox has been on the market for over 40 years, but in 2017 the company released a revamped model, perspective and packaging. To emphasize this point, we’ve focused on the admiration and values of women in sports. We’ve invested in women’s surfing which is in dire need of financial support, especially since surfing will be implemented in the 2020 Olympics,” said José Vicente Marino, President of Flora, which holds the rights to Neutrox.

A total of USD $15,000 in prize money will be on offer for the Women’s QS 1,500 Neutrox Weekend, while $5,000 will be distributed in each of the other events to take place at Barra da Tijuca. The entry registration deadline is on October 3rd and can be made through the WSL South America website at: www.wslsouthamerica.com
