Rip Curl & Surf Snowdonia to host unique kids' surf camp in school holidays
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 May, 2017 - The world's first commercial Wavegarden wave park, Surf Snowdonia, announced today it will be opening its long lefts and rights to the surf coaching community. Rip Curl and Surf Snowdonia are partnering to deliver a unique fast-track residential surf camp.
The two-day surf camp will take place during the Whit half term on 1st and 2nd June 2017 and is ideal for youngsters who would like to substantially improve their level of surfing and confidence on the water. Places are being offered to 12-16 year olds, and the sessions will be split into beginner, intermediate and advanced ability.
Tuition will be delivered by some of the UK’s top coaches and pros including Jayce Robinson, a Rip Curl pro surfer; Joel Gray, also of Rip Curl; and head of Surf Snowdonia’s surf academy Jo Dennison - who was recently crowned Welsh surf champion for the fifth time. The camp will include video analysis and instant feedback for advanced surfers.
Joel Gray, Rip Curl Marketing UK and professional surf coach said: “The vision for the Rip Curl Camp is to bring together junior surfers who are just starting out with national champions who already have substantial skill on the water. It will be an intensive two days of learning and fun.
“For me as a surf coach the lagoon is unrivalled in terms of providing the opportunity for quality practice repetition and immediate feedback. No matter what level our surfers are at, after each wave they will get feedback and the chance to immediately work on their skill set.
“Gone are the variables that you get in the ocean. This is basically a fast-track improvement camp. Rip Curl are stoked to be able to help provide this opportunity alongside the epic set up at Surf Snowdonia."
Rip Curl pro surfer Jayce Robinson said: “Surf Snowdonia is in a truly beautiful part of the UK, I might never have experienced this part of Wales if it didn’t exist. It really feels like you are surfing in another world.
“The wave itself is great for training - it's the same wave every time and that consistency means that you can really fine-tune your skills. I can't wait to coach the groms on this camp, I think we’re going to have a great time and see some great progression.”
No previous surfing experience is necessary, though those taking part must be confident in the water and able to swim at least 50 metres unaided. The course includes surf tuition as well as all meals including an evening BBQ, a surf camp film night in the Surf Snowdonia TiPi and accommodation. All participants will also get a Rip Curl and Surf Snowdonia goodie bag.
Bertie Norman, a grom from Bude, will be taking part in the Rip Curl camp. He said: "I loved my last trip to Surf Snowdonia and cannot wait to go again. The wave is so good to train on because it is the same every time which makes it perfect to practice moves over and over again till I get it. Staying in the pods is cool too, especially with a bit of hot tub action after a surf then some food in the restaurant. It's the perfect place to advance your surfing."
Jo Dennison, head of the Surf Snowdonia surf academy said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Rip Curl on this surf camp. It’s a fantastic opportunity for kids to get expert coaching in a surf environment that is uniquely geared for rapid learning. We’re really looking forward to it.”
The Rip Curl Surf Camp at Surf Snowdonia costs £160 for beginners, £200 for intermediates and £250 for advanced surfers. For more information, and to reserve your place, contact Bo Roberts on email@example.com or call 01492 353 123.
