20 - 28 March 2017

Samantha Sibley, Alyssa Spencer, Crosby Colapinto, Cole Houshmand, Tommy Coleman and Jordy Collins to represent the USA

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 May, 2017 - USA Surfing, the national governing body of surfing in the USA, has sent a squad of some of our most promising young talent to do battle with the best surfers from 40 nations at the International Surfing Association World Surfing Games. These are the first games since surfing was announced by the International Olympic Committee as a sport in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

USA Surf Team Coach, Joey Buran is excited about the prospects for the team, especially in the beach break conditions of Biarritz, "These are the young Americans! They are athletic, innovative, competitive and they are the future, and the future is now! Theirs’ is the Olympic dream! So, good luck Team USA! Get after it and go for the Gold!" Below is an introduction to the team with Coach Buran’s comments.

Jordy Collins- "Explosive surfing with an intense desire to succeed", Jordy has rocked up the WQS ranking in 2017 and continues to trend toward an outstanding year end ranking. He is the Team Captain and is currently ranked #2 on the WQS North American rankings. @jordy_collins

Tommy Coleman- "Wow factor with solid rail game and huge airs" Tommy has had great results on the WQS Tour in limited action. He is looking primed to be the next great surfer to come out of the East Coast. @tommybooboo1

Cole Houshmand- "Clean rail surfing with air game support" Cole scored a perfect 10 earlier this year in a WQS event in Australia. With impressive results and plenty of WQS experience throughout his young career, the World Games could be a break out moment for Cole. @cole_housmand

Crosby Colapinto-  "Super smooth surfing with big time turns" his recent top 10 performance at the WQS Jack's Pro was stellar. HIs career has a huge upside and is backed with confidence gained from great results in the US amateur ranks. @crosbycola

Alyssa Spencer- " Beautiful style with huge rail turns and seamless flow". Top 5 at the 2016 ISA World Juniors and Top 10 at the 2017 WSL World Juniors. On the verge of greatness. @alyssa_spencer1

Samantha Sibley- "A fantastic surfer and cool competitor" like Alyssa she is also on track for greatness. Two runner up WQS results in 2017 confirm her present elite status among the USA top women surfers. @samantha.sibley

USA Surfing CEO, Greg Cruse, believes “this young team has the ability and competition know-how to be a real threat at these games. Even though they are young, they have all been in the USA Surfing Prime Series of events for many years. The Prime Series pits the top surfers on each coast of the USA in a series of events that mimic WSL and ISA events – 4 person, 20 minute heats, computer scoring, 4-man priority and high level judging."

"The kids come out of our program as savvy competitors with International competition experience. They have already begun to make their mark on the WSL World Qualifying Series. I’m sure these talented surfers will join the other successful surfers from our program, like Kolohe Andino, Kanoa Igarashi, Conner Coffin, Courtney Conlogue, Lakey Peterson and Sage Erickson, on the World Tour and possibly the Olympics!”

The ISA World Surfing Games in Biarritz France run from May 20 – 28, 2017. The world championship will be streamed live on from May 20-28. Visit the official website for results, photos, videos and news pertaining to the competition.
