Big day of competition at Rainbow Beach
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 June, 2017 - The Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles saw another round of champions crowned today as a handful of Junior and Women’s divisions wrapped up in two-foot peaks.
Jye Whyatt (Suffolk Park) showed why he was reigning Australian Junior Logger Champion, taking out the NSW title. Whyatt notched up two excellent heat totals in excess of 16.07 to claim the title and seal himself a position to defend his title at the Australian Surf Festival in August.
Hailing from the same beach that’s produced former World Champion Harley Ingleby; Tom Woods’ (Emerald Beach) performance seemed to mirror his hometown hero, taking out the Under-16 Longboard division. Woods proved to be unstoppable across his dual final, posting two heat totals that exceeded 15.00 and put him in a solid position to earn a title for NSW when the Australian Surf Festival kicks off in Tweed Heads.
Trista Wagner (Boganar) ensured she made her six-hour drive south worthwhile, claiming the Over-35 Women’s division. Wagner took a clean sweep of victories across her dual finals to claim the title against perennial NSW Longboard Title competitor Vivienne Cresswell (Narrabeen) who claimed the runner-up position.
The results of the Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles presented by HIF will decide the NSW Team for the upcoming Australian Surf Festival in Tweed Heads in August.
Competitors are coming from as far south as Tomakin and as far north as Tweed Heads to enter the event.
The location for the event will be in Port Macquarie with the prime location to be Bonny Hills - however, the exact location will be determined on the day. Please call the event hotline (0458 247 212) after 6:45am every morning of the event.
